Wartime Apathy

Two separate bombs killed 16 and injured at least that many more in Baghdad TODAY. One was a roadside bomb, the other a female suicide bomber. The war rages on.

I don’t really care, and neither do most people in this country: Basra, Mosul, the Green Zone, roadside bomb, IED, Muqtada al-Sadr, bloodiest day of fighting in months, car bomb, insurgent rebels, Nuri al-Maliki–we feel like we’ve heard it all before. Just wake us up when its over….

It’s not good to be so desenitized to the pain of people in Iraq (or anywhere else). As Martin Luther King pointed out, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” The average American’s ignorance (and implicit acceptance) of this war can only hurt us in the long run. So, what can we do other than being apathetic warlords?
