During the fuel crisis in the late 70s, car ads focused on the size of the fuel tank. With long lines and unpredictability at the pump, a car’s “range” was a real benefit. We laugh at this logic today. Nowadays, a big gas tank is something to feel shame about.
Right now, what we see in the media is how products help us save the environment. There is a mad rush to save paper, save energy, and save the planet. Just like we’re laughing at the 70s logic now, in 30 years, we’ll be laughing at this current take on things. Conservation will never go out of style, but people are going so far out of their ways to save resources, sometimes it ends up costing more.
