Obama’s Transition Process

Check out this guest post I wrote about President-Elect Barack Obama for Brandon Whitney’s blog, Homeland Colors. In it, I am my usual entertaining and enlightening self. Here’s the link: http://homelandcolors.blogspot.com/2008/12/seth-pickens-presidential-musings.html

If African-Americans followed the advice and counsel Brandon regularly provides in his blog, most of our political and economic problems would be solved in a matter of months. That sort of widespread wisdom and accountability will probably never happen within this or any race, but hey, at least he’s putting it out there.

Incidentally, no one has had a greater influence on my development as a spiritual leader than Brandon’s late grandfather, Samuel Leon Whitney. He was the prototypical black pastor. I’m not talking about eatin’ chicken, drivin’ a Mercedes , singin’, and basking in the spotlight, even though he did all of that, too. I’m talking about making the gospel plain, fighting for civil rights, and making a congregation act like a family. What’s more, he is one of the few people who has ever spoken to me from beyond the grave. At least, he’s one of the few I ever listened to.

  1. Wow,
I think anyone that can turn a congregation into a family has to be a strong minded individual. I never heard of him before until your post, I would like to hear more on his work.
