Joel Osteen is OK

My cousin Nikki in Jersey City got me Joel Osteen’s Your Best Life Now Journal for Christmas. It has some passages from the book, some scriptures, some quotes from famous people, and space to write reflections in the direction the book is guiding. I’m 3 days in to the 49 day course and I am enjoying it immensely. The best part so far is that it is an invitation to imagination and optimism.

This journal has me writing out my big, hairy, audacious goals. The kind of things college freshman talk about achieving when they grow up, while workaday adults tell them they can’t. Goals like playing pro sports, writing bestselling books, adopting 7 children, being an astronaut, and succeeding wildly in business.

To paraphrase Ralph Waldo Emerson, just the fact that you can imagine yourself doing a thing is proof that it is at least attainable. Cultivating the belief that greatness and fulfillment are achievable for me is enormously empowering. You’d think I already know that “all things are possible with God,” but it really helps to be reminded.

Think about some of the things you most want out of your life and work. The thought that any and all of them are with in your grasp has to be worth a smile.

He has his share of detractors, but I must say I’m a fan.

  1. I agree Minister Osteen does give you that sense of imagination, I watch him every Sunday mornings on Channel five before Cleflo Dollar. It’s been two years since I started this ritual of mines, instead of attending my church school on sunday’s I tune in while getting ready for service. At first I thought he was like T.D but they are very different, try tunning in one sunday his show comes on 9am.

  2. I guess the question is, how can I find peace of mind? My purpose? Conquer impossible challenges? Never be alone? Enjoy happines even in the midst of a recession and 2 wars…and do something about all these injustices and tragedies around me?

And if you work to live you’re best life now, you are sure to enjoy eternity. People tend to die the way they live. Osteen preaching encourages listeners to see themselves the way a loving God might see them.

  3. It really is THE ONLY REALLY SAD EXCHANGE.

You need to wake up. God is not just love. he is also just and until God saves a man,, His wrath abides on that man. Joel is OK with SIN. God hates it.

God is just, holy and righteous (PS 97:2, PS 119:142) and mankind is unjust, unholy and unrighteous. (Isa 53:6, Rom 3:10-18, 3:23, Gal 3:22, Eph 2:1, James 1:5) God is intrinsically by His nature just and he cannot even look upon sin (iniquity) Holiness is an immutable attribute of God’s character. Hab 1:13a Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity. Therefore, God must punish our sin. Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Eze 18:20a The soul that sinneth, it shall die. Spiritual death (separation from God) has always been the wages of sin. (Gen2:17, 3:6,23,24, Eze 28:15,16)

Joel will not even tell people they are sinners. Joel even says 1. His message is just not for Christians. 2 (my paraphrase) “theology and bible teaching is not my thing,, I am an encourager.” And he is encouraging millions all the way to hell,,, for those that only see God as Love.

Take my ex-word of faith friends word of warning.

    A Word of Warning

    Theautonomyofthebeliever(DOT)blogspot(DOT)com/2009/04/word-of-warning(DOT)html

Romans 10:17 reads, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

This is true, but I would add a word of caution. Note that another truth is brainwashing cometh by hearing and hearing. Be sure that as you are endeavoring to listen and study the word of God, that you aren’t actually being brainwashed by men.

My husband and I have recently realized that we were willingly and actively being brainwashed by constantly listening to recorded sermons and also reading certain books over and over again. Imagine: No one came to our house and held us captive to brainwash us. We pursued the brainwashing!

By all means possible, seek truth, but under no circumstances, believe what a man tells you just because of whom he says he is.

  4. And where does Jesus and His Cross fit into your evangelism? Jesus is creator God!!! John 1: 3, John 1: 10, Eph. 3: 9, Heb. 1: 2 & 10

What understanding of God do you direct people towards?,,,, your own ideas about God (he is just so so good,, and only good,, cause he IS LOVE and only love)

Or do you tell folks what God has releaved to us about Him,,,, and our condition,,,,, in His WORD about himself and us?

So how do you deal with Gods wrath?

Joh 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; BUT THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDITH ON HIM

Rom 1:18-19 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.

Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

Heb 3:11 So I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

And why do you not warn unbelievers that THE WRATH OF GOD ABIDES ON THEM?

It soundS like to me that your leading folks to the same comfortable God that had made you comfortable. NOT the soveriegn Lord Jesus who created us all and dieD so that we would not have to suffer his eternal wrath.
