March Madness is Madness

The NCAA has a $6 billion deal over 11 years with CBS to air the Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments.

CBS can charge upwards of $1 million for a 30 second commercial during the Final Four.

March Madness is second only to the Super Bowl in terms of money flowing through Las Vegas.

Most of the head coaches make 6 figures, some 7. No problem, they more or less deserve it.

But the players, a lot of whom are good enough to play in the pros, a few of whom will be doing just that in a matter of weeks, get paid NOTHING.

None of that March Madness money would get generated without them, yet they don’t get paid. It’s a crime in my opinion. For the NCAA to insist on making them maintain amateur status while sucking as much cash as possible out of Nike, Pizza Hut, Bud Light, Coke Zero, General Motors (bailout money?), Foot Locker, and anyone else who will pay is criminal. Someone is getting rich. The only thing worse than it not being me is it not being the guys putting their bodies and hearts on the line on national TV for the love of the game.

The players make it all possible, and they deserve a slice of the ever-growing pie.
